HERE ARE SOME ACTUAL REGISTERED SEX OFFENDERS WHO ARE ALSO CHILDREN. THE TREND TO PUT CHILDREN ON THE REGISTRY IS GROWING AT AN ALARMING RATE NATIONWIDE.
THESE ARE CHILDREN ON THE SEX OFFENDER REGISTRY. MOST HAVE BEEN CONVICTED AS ADULTS EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE MINORS WHEN THEIR "OFFENSE" OCCURED. STATUTORY RAPE, PLAYING DOCTOR, OR ACTING OUT THINGS THEY HAVE SEEN ON TV. ARE THESE KIDS REALLY DANGEROUS OR ARE THEY SIMPLY VICTIMS OF MEGANS LAW IN A SEX SATURATED SOCIETY? THESE KIDS LIVES ARE OVER BEFORE THEY HAVE EVEN BEGUN. THEY WILL CARRY THE MARK OF REGISTERED SEX OFFENDER AND CHILD MOLESTER FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES.

Part of the Problem with all of this:
The phenomena of stigma, which he defined as, "...an attribute that is deeply discrediting..." (p.3). Such attributes included physical deformities, "blemishes of individual character," or "tribal stigma of race, nation, and religion" (p.4). Goffman was especially interested in the effects of stigma on interactions between stigmatized persons and those he termed "normals."
The consequence of possessing a stigmatizing attribute, he wrote, was that "...an individual who might have been received easily in ordinary social intercourse possesses a trait that can obtrude itself upon attention and turn those of us whom he meets away from him, breaking the claim that his other attributes have on us" (p.5). In other words, persons with stigmatizing characteristics might be denied acceptance, respect and regard from others whom they encountered.
